“What’s the ONE word that describes the IDEAL salesperson for you at your startup?”

(My answer below.)

But first, some context…

I just wrapped up our ELEVATE Mastermind call with the CEOs & Founders in our coaching program.

#Hiring & team management are always topics in the discussion, and one of our clients asked me this exact question.

My answer?

They have to CARE.

I remember shrink-wrapping 1000 textbooks in the back of a community college bookstore when we screwed up the order.

I remember taking redeye flights to NYC, shaving in the JFK airport bathroom, and heading right to Manhattan for a 9am meeting to save $400 on a hotel room.

I remember QA testing code in the TownPlace Suites in Dallas at 2am before a 7am launch.

All because I cared about my work and our company.

Any successful salesperson, but particularly at a startup, have to CARE — care about the customer, care about the company, care about the mission and vision.

If a salesperson doesn’t care, they won’t get results, they won’t be a fit and they’ll be a drag on your growth.

The group shared their ONE word. Here are a few –

Discipline

Persistence

Curiosity

Empathy

Results

Grit

What’s the word that comes to mind for you?
